Marking a major milestone in the arrival of the iconic dining brands, The Ivy Newcastle illuminated the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art into a striking display of colour and light as they announced the opening dates for the two restaurants, with The Ivy Newcastle Brasserie opening it’s doors on the 1st December and The Ivy Asia Newcastle, two days later on the 3rd December.
Taking pride of place at 102 Grey Street, the restaurants will open together for the first time in the brands’ history within a spectacular Grade II listed former bank building dating back to 1839. Situated on one of Newcastle’s most prestigious streets, the landmark building is a striking example of the grand neoclassical architecture championed by renowned builder and developer Richard Grainger, whose vision helped shape the city’s iconic streetscape. The historic space will be thoughtfully restored and reimagined, honouring its rich architectural heritage while introducing the distinctive design and character of both The Ivy and The Ivy Asia.
With a combined capacity of 201 guests, the historic venue is being transformed into two extraordinary dining spaces, with The Ivy Newcastle Brasserie offering 144 covers and The Ivy Asia Newcastle accommodating 57 guests, including dedicated bar seating at both restaurants. The interiors, designed by renowned UK designer and artist Adam Ellis, will combine the building’s original architectural grandeur with the distinctive contemporary styles of both brands.
At The Ivy Newcastle Brasserie, guests can look forward to the brand's signature all-day dining experience, from leisurely breakfasts and brunches to evening dinners, contemporary classics, much-loved Ivy favourites and thoughtfully priced set menus, all served against a backdrop of bespoke wallpapers and illuminated green onyx.
Meanwhile, The Ivy Asia Newcastle promises a more theatrical experience, with bold Asian-inspired flavours, beautifully presented dishes, hand-crafted sushi and enticing set menus designed to make the experience accessible for a range of occasions and budgets.
Striking interiors featuring signature glowing agate floors, hand-gilded ceilings and intricate glass detailing provide an unforgettable backdrop.
The arrival of The Ivy Newcastle Brasserie and The Ivy Asia Newcastle will also bring a significant boost to the local economy, creating 200 new jobs across the two restaurants. The landmark openings will welcome a talented team of hospitality professionals, including key appointments Beth Cole as General Manager and John Guthrie as Head Chef, marking an exciting new chapter for both brands as they establish themselves in the heart of Newcastle.
Newcastle is a city with an incredible sense of character, creativity and pride, so we wanted to mark the opening of reservations with a celebration that felt truly special to the North East. We've had our sights set on Newcastle for many years, but it was always important to us to find the perfect home for both brands. In 102 Grey Street, we feel we've found somewhere truly special, and we're incredibly excited to finally be bringing The Ivy Brasserie and The Ivy Asia to the city. Tonight's celebrations are just a taste of what's to come, and with reservations now officially open, we can't wait to welcome our first guests this December.
With reservations now officially open, Newcastle diners can now book their table to be among the first to experience the two new restaurants when they open this winter.
