Seeds, Stones, and Future Bones by Keiken (経験) coming to Baltic this September
Opening 19 September 2026, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is pleased to present Seeds, Stones, and Future Bones the first major exhibition in a UK public gallery by the artist collective Keiken (経験).
Keiken, meaning ‘experience’ in Japanese, is an artist collective led by Hana Omori that takes a collaborative approach to creating immersive worlds through embodied storytelling, empathetic technologies, and world-building.
Moving fluidly between games, films, installations, and performance, they craft deeply interconnected experiences that invite audiences to feel, connect and transform.
The exhibition presents Morphogenic Angels: Chapter 1, a science-fiction, single-player, action-adventure game, alongside sculptural and newly commissioned sound works. Set within in a site-specific installation environment conceived for Baltic’s Level 2 gallery, Keiken’s works explore questions of consciousness, transformation and the boundaries of human experience. The exhibition continues Baltic’s ongoing commitment to presenting artists who work across film, installation, game design and emerging technologies to explore questions of consciousness, transformation and the boundaries of human experience.
The Morphogenic Angels universe is set 1000 years in the future. What unfolds there takes place in a radically different time and space and that transcends our current political, societal and economic realities. It explores a future where people enjoy expanded capabilities through the organic re-engineering of their cells, tapping into non-human consciousness. In this world, post-human entities are considered ‘angels,’ and they value and draw from all kinds of consciousness: ancestral, bodily, extraterrestrial, as well as animal, nature, cellular, and the cosmos. Following two central characters, Yaxu and Anamt’u’ul, Morphogenic Angels is a love story that spans multiple evolutionary lifecycles.
Visitors are invited to enter and navigate Keiken’s universe. The Morphogenic Angels gameplay includes a subverted combat system that demonstrates how our energy impacts others. Designed to function simultaneously as live cinema, the game becomes a collective experience. Extending the game universe into physical space, it is situated in an immersive and multi-sensory environment including sculptural and audio work informed and developed through the artists’ ongoing research with marginalised communities, including the Japanese deafblind community. The sculptural work explores perception and non-hierarchical ways of knowing. Together, they function as speculative materialised fragments of potential new worlds that attempt to translate complex and often invisible systems (such as collective consciousness and post-verbal communication) into physical form.
